In today's
society, hunting is often looked down upon as barbaric,
or inhumane, or downright cruel by many people. I won't
try to justify why I hunt. I do, and I'm not ashamed of
it.
How many of you have
seen a flight of Honkers circling around to land with
their feet extended and their wings cupped? How often
have you seen a sunrise over a marsh with mallards
passing overhead? Or a bald eagle diving on a duck? Or
cut open a trail into a long unused high mountain hunting
camp? I have sat and listened to the bees working the oak
blossoms of a scrub forest while waiting for a dove to
pass by, watched a well trained dog working a field
looking for pheasant, or making a water retrieve with a
duck in its mouth. Just being there is important to me.
The hunting is the
excuse.
